How can you utilise your landing space?

In architectural language, spaces such as landings are often referred to as ‘dead spaces’ - a space that is routinely overlooked and not used for anything other than passing through. However, hallways and landings are often the first spaces visitors in your home see and are often where first impressions are made. For many, Covid-19 lockdown has provided the perfect time to make home improvements which have been placed on the back burner for many years while we enjoyed social activities that we so greatly miss in current times. So why not make a small but noticeable change to your home by how you use your landing - ready to welcome guests on brighter days ahead! In this blog, we discuss three ways you could transform your landing space regardless of its size.

Micro-office

In one of our November blogs, we gave you our tips for creating a productive home office, in which we discussed how landing space could be transformed and provide the perfect backdrop for a productive office. Most houses have a small and awkward landing space, however, many still have enough space for a small office set up away from all the living room distractions. Also, with more and more of us working for home due to the pandemic having a small space like this can be invaluable.

Window seat

If your home is lucky enough to have a window at the top of your landing, this could be perfectly transformed into a window seat, providing the ideal area to wind down, read a book or take a minute and enjoy the view. A window seat can also produce additional storage in the base and is a really effective way to create a pretty and practical seating area in a space that is otherwise under-utilised or used as a dumping ground.

Library-style study area/reading nook

Many homes landing spaces are perfect for a reading nook or study area, with lots of wall space that can be used for shelves or bookcases, and, in many cases can create perfect home library vibes. If you are lucky enough to have a larger space, a chair and side table can also complement to provide an escape to a mini reading room!
