Arc Design Services Are Thrilled To Be Shortlisted Again for Northern Design Awards

We are so excited to announce that we have been shortlisted for two schemes in the Northern Design Awards again! We are finalists in the “Residential Build” category for our unique designs of two residential properties - Bankhall Lane, Hale and Kenilworth Road, Sale. We hope we’re as successful as we were last year.

 Kenilworth Road, Sale

Our first shortlisting is for a house in Kenilworth Road, Sale which we designed in the 'Arts & Crafts' style, but with a modern twist. We paid particular attention to the creative balance of materials by using contemporary materials, such as dark grey aluminium sash windows, lead box windows and brick and render, whilst maintaining a traditional style. It was important to the client to have the energy efficiencies of a new-build home but to have all of the luxury amenities that are expected of such a property, matched with an appealing design. The project was completed in just 12months, during which time we managed to maximise a tight external space to create a fantastic family home incorporating six bedrooms, five bathrooms and extensive family and living areas, without compromising on space. The 4500 square foot house, on just a 0.19-acre plot, was spread over three floors, rather than two, to generate as much space as possible, including dressing areas and storage within the eves.

Bankhall Lane in Hale

Arc Design Services’ second shortlisting is for a home in Bankhall Lane in Hale. This started with the original idea of remodelling the existing property housed on the site, which was just over 2300 square feet spread over 2 floors. However, working alongside the structural engineer, Arc Design Services discovered that the existing foundations weren't sufficient to accommodate the planned changes, so we decided that it would be a better option to build a completely new house but base it on the design of the original property. The property is now 5800 square feet over 4 floors. The stunning home is constructed principally of ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) with feature brick bays and plinths, complimented by rendering over the main body of the building. The house has rainwater harvesting for the toilets and garden and we incorporated MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery). This retains most of the energy already used in heating the building and provides fresh filtered air to improve the in-door air quality and reduce dust and allergens. All of these combine to provide an extremely energy efficient, carbon-friendly and healthy home.

We’ve seen great success in recent years with a number of awards and nominations, including winning the “Best Individual New Home” category at the North West LABC Building Excellence Awards 2017. We’ve also been shortlisted for the ‘Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home’ award at the LABC Building Excellence National Finals 2018.
