Momentum is gathering in the custom-build sector, with opportunities for people to customise their own homes emerging at two separate locations in central England.
Plans have been submitted by the developer Czero Home for a sustainable development of ten zero-carbon custom-build homes in Staffordshire and Shropshire, offering properties ranging from bungalows to large detached homes on serviced plots - with a proposed cost of approximately £150,000. Potential buyers will have the opportunity to customise the developer’s detailed designs and to do something different with both plot and design.
The schemes, which already have outline planning permission, demonstrate the growing popularity of custom-builds in the UK, and recognise that an increasing number of homeowners are seizing the opportunity to create a home which is truly right for them. Working alongside an independent designer, architect or developer as part of a private homebuilding endeavour can ensure that your property suits the needs of you and your family whilst being innovative, eco-friendly and cost-effective.
Private homebuilding projects are even being established as attractive prospects in the starter-home market. The Self Build on a Shoestring competition is currently open for entries, and is looking for innovative starter home designs that can be constructed within a £40,000 budget, whilst being eco conscious and aesthetically pleasing.
Showing what can be achieved, a number of design entries from previous competitions have secure planning permission in various locations across the UK - with last year’s winner currently in the process of evaluating a number of sites in London suitable for developing on.
