Loft conversions are a great asset to any home and bring you extra space and storage too.
If you’re thinking of converting your loft, we’ve come up with some design tips to help you along the way.
Don't forget the stairs - One of the key considerations when designing your loft is ensuring you have enough room for the stairs. Stacking the new flight over the exiting staircase is usually the best option, and where space is tight, consider adding a spiral staircase.
Create a great atmosphere - Layering your lighting creates an great and changing atmosphere. If you have exposed beams, consider fitting directional spot lights on these, but try to conceal the light source to prevent glare. Adding bedside wall lights, particularly ones with a dimmer switch, can also create an effective atmosphere.
Bring in natural light - Whilst artificial lighting is effective, so is natural lighting. Include as many windows as possible to bring in the natural light. Why not consider roof lights to create a spectacular feature window?
Decorate - For a modern look, consider using tinted paints to exaggerate the architectural elements. Paler colours work best to enhance the feeling of light, whilst warm neutral colours work well to enhance the feeling of light. You could even jazz it up with a feature wall or add vibrant furniture and soft furnishings.
When decorating your loft, it’s important to think about how much space you have and what colours and design best fit.
