Here at Arc Design Services Ltd, we’ve put together some important tips to consider when you’re updating your kitchen.
Allocate a budget - You may be eager to begin designing your new kitchen, but putting together a budget can be a very effective way to ensure you don't break the bank whilst designing a kitchen that reflects your needs and expectations. Begin by making a list of all the materials required, from flooring to cabinetry. This will ensure your project doesn't spiral out of control.
New versus remodelled - You’ll need to decide whether you want a completely new kitchen or to just remodel the kitchen you already have. This will depend on how much you wish to spend and your design requirements. Whatever you choose, ensure that your expectations are in line with what’s possible, given the scope of the work and your budget.
Colour palette - Choose your colour palette carefully, since dark colour schemes can make a room which is small look even smaller and less inviting, whereas subtle and soft colour schemes can make a room look bigger, which is a great way to visually expand a small room.
Consider a basic kitchen layout - One of the first things you must consider when re-designing your kitchen, is to measure up and produce a scaled plan of the room. This will give you a better idea of how much space you have to play with whilst ensuring cabinets and other materials fit. Don't forget that kitchens come in all shapes and size, so think beyond the basic work triangle.
Look to use other unused areas of your home such as connecting an outbuilding or even a hallway to expand the size and scope of your kitchen. Knocking through or adding extra space through an extension can transform your space.
The style of your kitchen should be compatible with the rest of your home, but don't worry too much about making it match exactly, since your home is always evolving and a new kitchen can be a breath of fresh air. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
