2023 architectural trends

As we all experience January blues, we wanted to look towards the year ahead and discuss our top four trends that we expect to see in 2023 within architectural design.

Focus on energy-efficient design

In 2022 energy prices started to soar, and with 2023 set to see even further increases, we expect that one of the top trends of 2023 will be ensuring that all design features focus on the ultimate in energy efficiency. For example, focusing on sustainability or ensuring the most insulating material alternatives are used in all home design changes, additions or renovations in 2023. With predictions suggesting that energy prices could continue to rise all the way into 2030, we think this will be a trend here to stay for the long-run.

Versatile and multi-functional space

Homes continue to be no longer a place that you go after work to eat and sleep. For many people, home continues to be the office, the gym, the bar, and much more, especially as the cost of living continues to increase. Therefore, the need for versatile and multi-functional space will continue to be a trend in 2023 as homeowners rely further on their space to be as flexible as possible to ensure it meets all their family’s needs.

Panelling started to take off in 2022 and is a trend we think will continue into 2023, with many homeowners experimenting with the different types of panelling available to them. In 2023, we would expect vertical wood panelling to be the most popular as homeowners start to copy interior trends with this type of panelling compared to the horizontal panelling we explored in 2022.

Neutral pallets with gentle gold

In 2022 we saw neutral/natural home palettes thrive and this is a trend we expect to continue in 2023. This is due to their ability to open up an array of possibilities for your home, and also enable you to experiment with different tones and colours to accent a neutral base. However, in 2023 we expect to see the beginnings of combining these neutral tones with gold accents such as gold door handles, light fittings, etc.
