What the client wants…

With the increasing use of Pinterest and Houzz (see our previous blogs) a client has quite often spent time gathering ideas, pictures and information to inform the architectural design process. Our clients at Kenilworth Road in Sale had done just that, which helped with making their dream home a reality. They ultimately wanted an 'Arts & Crafts' style with a modern twist.

As the client had been unhappy with their previous architectural experience, we wanted to restore their faith in achieving their vision. We listened to their concerns to ensure that our design met their requirements as well as bringing our own experience, creativity and practical ethos to the project. It was as important to the client to have the external appearance of the property looking as good as the internal design.

We achieved this by using a creative balance of materials including contemporary materials, such as dark grey aluminium sash windows, lead box windows and brick and render, whilst maintaining a traditional style. Of course, as with most clients, it was important to incorporate the energy efficiencies of a new-build home but to have all of the luxury amenities that are expected of such a property, matched with an appealing design.

We completed the project in just 12 months, although the client had waited two years for planning permission. During the project, we maximised a tight external space to create a fantastic family home incorporating five bedrooms, five bathrooms and extensive family and living areas, without compromising on space. The 4500 square foot house, on just a 0.19-acre plot, was spread over three floors, rather than two, to generate as much space as possible, including dressing areas and storage within the eves.

We were thrilled with the client's feedback:

"Jonathan listened to us both from the outset and made my wife and I feel very relaxed from the start. He brought a lot of calm to the meetings at the design stage as we both had the vision and ideas in our head of what we wanted - Jonathan then transferred that with his own experience and ideas on to paper. His ideas and creativity always made sense with the balance and materials he specified and used throughout the design stage. We wanted a luxury Arts and Craft home to share with our large family and friends and that is what we achieved with Jonathan’s help.

Jonathan made the process so easy and he designed it to an exceptional standard. We are extremely happy with our family home. People actually stop in their cars to look at our beautiful home on a daily basis as there is so much detail to see.”
